Rowing
WHO WE ARE
Rowing is one of the university disciplines par excellence which in Pavia finds its official origins in the Pavia Pisa, the Italian Boat Race, which was born in 1929, although already practiced since the early 1900s at Battellieri Colombo and Canottieri Ticino which were the first headquarters for rowing university students until 1968, when the first nucleus of the Cussina Nautical Center was inaugurated. Since then, rowing has become the discipline in which CUS Pavia invests the most, allowing it to consolidate those characteristics of continuity and quality that allow it to achieve results of absolute excellence. On these premises, in the early 1980s, the Federal Rowing College was born, an initiative supported by the FIC to allow top-level athletes to undertake university studies at the University of Pavia; over the years many athletes, including Olympic Champions and numerous World Champions, have benefited from this initiative.
The section has been affiliated with the FIC since 1946.
CUS Pavia Rowing organizes introductory courses for young people (10 – 13 years) and adults. The competitive activity of the Over 14 team (Boys, Junior, Senior and Master categories) participates in regional, national and international level competitions. With the Under 14 team (Trainers and Cadets categories) he participates in the federal youth competitions as well as in the Youth Festival, a national event. The University team has always participated in the CNU, obtaining excellent results, and our eight are often invited to participate in university regattas in Europe and the rest of the world.

DISCIPLINE
Rowing leads to acquiring technique, power and resistance: it is crucial to acquire a good rowing technique, to have power to make each stroke of the oar in the water effective and resistance is needed because the distances are demanding. The races take place with single boats, with 2, 4 and 8 rowers. Some boats have a helmsman, a fundamental component for the outcome of a regatta. In popular iconography, rowing is identified with the figure eight, the flagship boat, where the crew prevails with the ability to train, suffer and win together. Rowing is a discipline suitable for everyone.
Information on activities for the 2025/26 season will be available approximately towards the end of July.
