Canoe

WHO WE ARE
The Canoe arrived in Pavia in 1966 on the initiative of a small group of passionate university students from Ticino. The CUS Pavia immediately welcomed this proposal and in a few months the canoeists managed to establish a stable organisation, so much so that in 1968, at the inauguration of the first nucleus of the Nautical Headquarters, Canoeing was already an autonomous section capable of expressing a multifaceted activity both in the competitive and amateur fields, both at a youth and adult level. The Paddle College has been active since the 2005/06 academic year, an initiative developed jointly with the Italian Canoe and Kayak Federation where athletes from the national teams can start or continue a university course without abandoning high-level competitiveness.

The section has been affiliated with FICK since 1 January 1982 and is one of the constituent associations.

WHAT WE DO

CUS Pavia Canoe organizes introductory courses for young people (8 – 18 years) and adults.
The competitive activity takes place in the Speed, Marathon and Downhill sectors where the Over 14 team (Children, Junior, Senior and Master categories) participates in regional, national and international level competitions.
The Under 14 team (Pupils and Cadets categories) participates in the federal youth competitions as well as in the various phases of the national Canoagiovani circuit.
The University team participates in the CNU obtaining first-rate results.
The Ciffonauti are the point of reference for amateur activity; this group, which was formed within the section, organizes descents on the most famous Italian rivers, lake or sea trips in the full spirit of the canoe club.

DISCIPLINE
The canoe is a light paddle boat. A common mistake is to believe that only the arm muscles are used in a canoe: in paddling a fundamental function is carried out by the trunk muscles, an action which, to be effective, must be compensated with the push of the legs. Canoeing trains all the muscles of the body and, even at an amateur level, paddling produces a good toning effect.
The canoe was born from the need of primitive man to push himself on the water, resulting in the evolution of an infinite variety of boats, all characterized by the use of the paddle as a means of propulsion. This is why canoeing is practiced everywhere: lakes, rivers, streams and the sea.
The canoe is the ideal tool for getting to know new places, even those that are difficult to access, and for making trips in full respect of nature. The limited dimensions and extreme lightness make the canoe particularly transportable.

The paddle specialties are: CANOE, KAYAK and DRAGON BOAT (a 22-seater boat: 20 rowers + helmsman and drummer).
