Volleyball

WHO WE ARE

In 1963 the men’s volleyball team of CUS Pavia took to the field for the first time for an official match of the Provincial Promotion Championship: CUS emerged victorious, thus obtaining access to the regional phase. This is how CUS began practicing volleyball. Over the years the section has grown, forming different teams that have played in countless championships. The two first teams, at different times, also played in the National Serie B Championship, but they were short experiences because they were far from the spirit of the CUS, the amateur association par excellence.

The section has been affiliated with FIPAV since 1964, with CSI since 2015 and with PGS since 2016.

WHAT WE DO
CUS Pavia Volley is one of the few realities in Lombardy to practice volleyball in both the men’s and women’s fields, with a large nursery that feeds a number of teams that compete in both the Provincial Division and Category Championships. The first teams, female and male, currently play in the Serie C Regional Championships. Youth activity starts from 6 years old (mini volleyball from 6 to 10 years old).
CUS Pavia Pallavolo also offers amateur courses for adults, university students and others which allow access to the teams participating in the CSI and PGS championships.

WHERE

DISCIPLINE
The invention of volleyball in its modern form is credited to William Morgan, a physical education instructor at a college YMCA in Holyoke, Massachusetts, who in 1895 created a game called Mintonette. The FIVB (Fédération Internationale de Volleyball) was born in 1947; with the birth of the International Federation the rules of the game were standardized and the game took on the main characteristics that we still know today. Over the last thirty years the regulation has undergone radical changes, such as the introduction of the tiebreak (1988) and the so-called “free” player (1997). The most important change is the abolition of the ball exchange (1998) in favor of the new game system (Rally point system). One point is awarded for each action, whether the serving or receiving team wins.

Volleyball does not involve physical contact between participants. Volleyball is a sport suitable for the body in training, it improves coordination and conditioning skills and educates team spirit, since each player must necessarily depend on his teammates, so everyone plays for everyone and not for themselves.

Information on activities for the 2025/26 season will be available approximately towards the end of July.
